I changed the batteries and this seems to have solved the issue. I clicked on the type of controller 'Amazon Firestick' and this is the suggested resolve which worked great: Press the Home button on your Amazon Fire TV remote. You had to kind of "trick" it into turning on or off by pushing other buttons on the remote. Next issue: The remote previously would only sometimes the TV on or off. Upon startup, about 40% of the time, it will only pause/rewind for two minutes instead of the hour+ that is supposed to happen with the flash drive. Next issue: I put a flash drive in which extends the amount of pause/rewind time beyond the standard two minutes. This happens about 50% of the time but I would say that it's frequency has increased as time has passed. The audio comes through normally, it's just the video that is messed up.
